Shower Curtain Rods
Curtain rods can be the most confusing thing when it comes time to decorate. I remember when I was younger seeing the layers of curtains and hiding in between the panels thinking I could get lost forever. When I got my own place and had to hide my windows because I had no view to speak of…trying to decide what type of curtain rod to use became a real dilemma. Did you know that they make single, double, and triple rods? Asking why and getting an answer became the challenge for me.
So, it was field trip time and out to the home gallery and decorating store for me. Actually I went to three, so I could hear why and what the differences were between them all. Of course, once you hear it described it makes sense, the single curtain rod would be used for a single panel curtain for a window or a sheer for a patio door. The reason for a double curtain rod is to piggy back the curtains and to layer a top curtain, known as a valance over a panel or sheer and to cut down on the number of holes put into the wall because the rods are together on one bar. The triple curtain rod would be the same as the double rod except it has three curtain rods on one bar so you’re able to layer three types of curtains to complement each other, at one time.
If we look at the different rooms in a home, you can almost envision where the various types of curtain rods would be used, for example, a single curtain rod would be used on a kitchen window over the sink, to keep it light and airy. A double curtain rod could be used in a den or bedroom where you would have panels and a valance hanging over the top for a layered look, on the window. This would also allow you the opportunity to pull or tie back the panels with hooks or rope during the day, for decorative purposes and to let light in, to brighten the room. The triple rod is the most decorative and would most likely be used in a living room or formal dining room. This allows for sheer panels at the base, panels to follow and a valance to complete the set making the window look dressed up. This also cuts down on the number of bars to hang on the wall. So, when you decide to decorate your windows you’ll first have to decide what type of curtains you’ll want and then you’ll know what type of curtain rod you’ll need to hang them.
